POLITICS: Ala. Politicos blog their own

By Kyle Whitmire

Here at Birmingham Weekly, we always like to stay one step ahead of the politicians, so it irked us some when we found a few of them had beaten us to this whole blogging thing. At least now, we won’t have to listen to complaints from pols. “You only print the bad stuff!” Oh, yeah? Well, now you can go blog your own.

Still, it is interesting to read a few of the politico guests on some of the local blogs. At Doc’s Political Parlor and Home of Lawnmower Repair, Rep. Cam Ward, R-Alabaster, and Rep. Randy Hinshaw, D-Meridianville, are sharing their thoughts on the 2007 session under Posts from the Legislature. Closer to home, Rep. Patricia Todd, D-Birmingham, has been guest blogging at Birmingham Blues. So far the posts have been insightful, informative, sometimes funny, and remarkably non-partisan. Apparently in Montgomery the Alabama House is now the more statesmanlike chamber. Read up on the political action there, and if you readers know of other politico bloggers, don’t keep them a secret.

Birmingham 101: What will history say about us?

‘The city of perpetual promise.’ Does that mean incessant failure? Or rather, that Birmingham never gives up hope?
