This is terrible news. It is an absolutely deplorable act on the part of the mayor, who's administration, up until now, I have had much optimism for. It is fundamental that neighborhoods should have a say in their in their existence and future. Reckless moves like this on the part of the mayor and his administration will only help adjacent cities continue their rapid growth as Birmingham residents like myself are forced to consider relocating in order to protect their real estate investment (not to mention gaining access to superior schools, security, etc.). The Langford administration should have more respect for the citizenry, especially if it hopes to have even a remote chance of reversing Birmingham's decades-long trend of depopulation -- and, most critically, the loss of its middle-class.

I think this is outrageous and we need to go down and talk with them. The neighborhood associations are an integral part of the City and no one should have the individual power to make a change such as this by oneself.
