The problem is that they're already over budget with all the other goodies they've promised the citizens of Birmingham. It's not a bad promotional idea, in the end. It would get folks more interested in riding the busses. My concern is that after the free rides folks will go right back to not riding them. \ \ Even if you pay for rides, the bus is still a great deal-- if you can get a route. My husband and I would absolutely LOVE to take a bus into Birmingham, but we live in Trussville. Therein lies the problem. There seems to be too much focus on mass transit IN Birmingham and too little focus on mass transit INTO Birmingham. I’m still thinking that, if they’re going to do this, the money needs to come from something else.
