Local Dish tasting: Apples

By Glenny Brock

Why do we need so many kinds of apples? Because there are so many folks. A person has a right to gratify his legitimate taste. If he wants twenty or forty kinds of apples for his personal use\’85he should be accorded the privilege. There is merit in variety itself. It provides more contact with life, and leads away from uniformity and monotony.\

It\’92s time for another installment of Local Dish. Brought to you by Whole Foods and Birmingham Weekly, the Oct. 13 event features everyone\’92s favorite healthful fruit, the apple. For a $10 donation, guests can sample apple hors d\’92oeuvres in addition to seasonal beers and wine, while a panel of local chefs taste and judge each dish. This month’s Local Dish tasting benefits Studio by the Tracks, a non-profit organization that provides a safe and creative atmosphere for adults with autism, Asperger’s or mental illness who go to the studio to make art. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. and reservations can be made by calling (205) 912-8400.\
