A federal grand jury has indicted John Katopodis on charges that he used a charity under his control to benefit himself and others.\’a0\

The charges focus on Computer Help for Kids, a charity meant to give computers to needy children and other community organizations.\’a0\
\
Katopodis founded the charity with Birmingham Mayor Larry Langford and former HealthSouth CEO Richard Scrushy.\’a0\

In a lawsuit against HealthSouth earlier this year, Katopodis testified that he used the charity’s accounts for personal expenses.\’a0\

Katopodis is a former Jefferson County commissioner, a former Birmingham city councilor and a close friend of Mayor Langford.\’a0\
