Indie film alert: Guelwaar

By Glenny Brock

The UAB Foreign Film Series continues next week, with the Feb. 17 screening of Guelwaar. Directed by Ousmane Sembene, the 1992 feature film focuses on the conflict that arises after a Christian political activist is buried in a Muslim cemetery in a Senegalese town. It’s a satiric portrayal of religion and politics in Africa, in French and Wolof with English subtitles.
