Something bloggy this way comes

By Courtney Haden

You may have noticed a previous entry by yours truly in this space and subsequently read it, whereupon, checking the authorship, you gasped in astonishment to learn that I have written only one post on Mixed Media. “That can’t be true!” you will have cried aloud, in this scenario, anyway.\
\
You are correct. I have never actually written a post for Mixed Media. Sharp-eyed observers and even those with recent Lasik surgery doubtless recognized that supposed post as an actual column from Birmingham Weekly and demanded a refund from Mixed Media for the deceptive business practice.\
\
To prevent financial collapse, I am pleased to present this, an actual first posting to Mixed Media. (Since you’ve already read this far, I consider this post now officially depreciated and thus you are no longer entitled to a refund.)\
\
I have only a couple of items for you here. One, I am amused by a Fox News interview with Karl Rove in which he claims he will be eaten alive when he testifies before the House Judiciary Committee. Harriet Miers and Josh Bolton “may be the hors d’oeuvres,” he said, “but I’m the main course. Some Democrats would love to have me barbecued.”\
\
Maybe he wouldn’t have these fears of being devoured if he hadn’t said “Bite me” so often during his tenure at the White House. Further, let me go on record as saying Karl Rove should not be barbecued. A fatty slab like Karl would benefit from slow roasting or even being placed in a smoker for 10 to 12 hours for proper rendering (not to be confused with rendition).\
\
If that sounds like cruel and unusual punishment, then take Karl off the grill and waterboard him. According to his pals, it’s not torture and it’s sure to disgorge valuable information. Besides which, thanks to John Yoo, it’s totally legal.\
\
Secondly, thanks to the one person who commented on my previous non-post, Kathy from the great Birmingham Blues blog, which contains some musings on Richard Shelby worthy of your attention when you get through here. It did remind me of a bit I forgot to include, and that was a story the capable Mary Orndorff wrote for The Birmingham News in which she stated that Senator Dick “secured” a pile of stimulus money for the state through earmarks.\
\
Setting aside the fact that Shelby’s candidate for president is still railing against earmarks, how can we say that Senator Dick secured anything for the state when he didn’t even vote for the stimulus legislation? If anything, he did his best to un-secure much-needed funding through his intemperate speechifying and ultimately siding with the Nays.\
\
Be on the lookout for Bobby Bright, Parker Griffith and their Publican partners rolling around the state to talk about all the money they brought to their districts, and do remind them loudly that they didn’t bring squat. They voted No on stimulating the economy, which means they voted against your financial well-being,\
\
That’s all for now. If I can quit Twittering, I’ll try blogging some more later….
