I feel the same way about the claims to the national titles. No matter what era the champions were chosen or what method they used to select them ,all the universities were subject to the rules that governed them respectively. No university called themselves champions unless they had been selected by an independent third party group of selectors. The university or universities that were chosen didn't have to be the unanimous pick to be deemed the national champions. For what ever reasons some universities including the University of Alabama did not recognize every championship that was awarded them. Auburn has been awarded the title four times but Auburn only recognize one the 1957 championship. On the other side of the coin ,Alabama has been recogonized as the champions seventeen times and they choose only to recognize thirteen.The SEC, AP, UPI,NCAA,USA,ESPN,Ect.,Ect. were all formed at various times and they also have there on methods as to how many titles they recognize and how many years they may choose to go back for each university that has recieved votes from one or more of the groups of selectors as champions. Princeton has 28 titles that date back to a period before Alabama and Auburn even played their firsT Game.As an Alabama fan it irratates me have this argument with the Auburn fans about the number of titles Alabama has.These facts have been recorded with a number of different groups that record this type of information.I personally do not deny Auburn their championships and its not the Bama fans that are saying that Auburn only has one championship. We say it because Auburn only recognizes just the one.Alabama on the otherhand recognizes thirteen and the thirteen they have chosen to recognize have been awarded by one or more of the governing bodies that have the power to select and name a national champion with the rules of such being applied to all other competiters. Alabama fans will always be quick to point out their teams national titles. We as fans are proud of our teams accomplishments. After all that why they play the game.Bragging RightsJust as Auburns fans are Quick to point out their teams victories over Alabama. My point is you don,t see Alabama fans denying the fact that we lost six in a row to Auburn! We surely don't like it! but it doesn't change the facts that it really happened. If you get my drift. 14 wins 1 heisman and our 13th National Championship! It's Great to be a BAMA Fan ROLL TIDE!!!!

I totally agree there should be some way to play this thing off! Boise has a great team! but didn't get the opportunity to play. I think all conferences should have to play for their respective championships. Until they do teams like Boise will get over looked! I Also think that teams like them will have to strengthen their schedules.But until we have that type of playoff we will continue to agrue these points.

I think any school has the right to claim a National Championship if any of the selectors have chosen them. After all they were picked by that selector, and who says the selectors have to agree. What makes the AP (or any other seletion method) better than one of the others? Human emotion has to much of an impact to allow any poll to always be accurate. As long as there is not a playoff system, multiple “number one” picks is a possibility. If entities such as ESPN (for example) choose to ignore the selections of some of the selectors then the Nation Champion list becomes ESPN's list, or in other words, just another opinion. No selector is correct every year but that is no reason to deny a schools students of the knowlege and pride of that selectors decision. Whether done at the time or post selected who cares? After all, if the NCAA doesn't care enough to create a playoff for a National Championships then what does it matter if you have several top picks from several selectors? Nothing can take away from the fact that according to that particular selector based on it's particular critiria the team it selected is the National Champion. Just leave it at that.

Nice to see *BOTH* schools feeding on each others arrogance and ignorance. WOW!! Till we have a play-off system in place I don't care who is crowned the National Champion, you'll always have a *BUT* involved.

Boise State has an argument for this year as Utah did last year.
You can say Utah or Boise State doesn't play anyone on their schedule or what ever, but you can say the same for the lower end of the SEC. (don't get me wrong I'm an SEC fan, but as you know we have teams that just couldn't play with other big schools in the country...talking right now.)

Utah played to the level of a undefeated team and could have beaten anyone as they did Alabama last year. What if the pros went on strength of schedule? Hmm..don't think the Saints would be in the play-offs of have a chance to win the Super Bowl.

Get the $$$ out of the hands the the greedy people and let the colleges decide it on the field, then and ONLY then we will be able to say, "We have crowned a National Champion!"

I could care less how many rings/trophies/plaques/awards any team has. The opposition in ANY arena can be a little bit intolerable. I give credit to all the players and teams for getting out there and playing and putting on a good performance for US spectators. Interesting article though. I think it says more about champ selection process than the teams. What really matters is what happens out there on the field. That being said, U of A just had a perfect season. 13-0-0! Wooo Hoooo! Can't argue with that!! Roll Bama!
