Five BPD Cops fired after brutal video surfaces

By Matt Hooper

Carol Robinson of The Birmingham News has the story today that five Birmingham Police Officers have been fired after video surfaced of them beating an unconscious man following a high speed chase in 2008.

The video clip, which can be seen below, picks up the chase along what appears to be U.S. Hwy 31 at the I-459 interchange in Hoover. A white minivan darts through traffic, appears to sideswipe a Hoover officer, and then makes its way onto the 459 ramp. Birmingham officers then appear to force the minivan off the side of the ramp, causing it to flip and roll several times, ejecting the suspect, Anthony Warren, into a ditch. That is when the five Birmingham officers descend upon Warren’s unconscious body and beat him.

The video can be seen below (perhaps NSFW), the story can be read here.

God blessed me with seeing 2 sides of a story. One if it were my friends who this man was trying to run off the road, not to mention strangers as well....without an officer uniform I would want to knock him out. However, that is the responsibility of a police officer....to lay down personal agendas and do a clearly defined job. I guess I wonder how many people out there could beat an unconscious person even after the posts about how they think this guy deserved it. Not many people would beat a man who cant fight back and the ones who would sure shouldnt be police officers in the first place.

A little excessive but he needs to be tried for attempted murder on a police officer!
I personally think due to the circumstances they did a good job!
Now what this scumbag is going to sue for big bucks?
    What a country!

It is not the responsibility of a police officer to give anyone what they deserve. That's the job of the courts. In this case, I think that the officers overreacted, emotion aside.

But obviously the driver should receive the harshest penalty possible for running and endangering an officer's life.

It would make him a lot less sympathetic character to the judge if cops didn't then beat the crap out of him.

    That's not good.
