Birmingham’s fat…but you knew that already

So the American College of Sports Medicine publishes this thing called the “American Fitnessscales Index” that ranks the top 50 U.S. metro areas on their level of fitness. They base these rankings on certain parameters relating to general health, environment, fitness facilities, health care, etc., and then the Birmingham Business Journal reports the findings. And I’m burying the lede here because as usual, I have bad news to report about the fitness of our beloved metro area. Ready? Here it is. Out of 50, Birmingham ranks 43rd overall, but that’s not the bad news. The bad news is that we are 49th in personal health. So hey, keep up the good work there, people are noticing.
