roboticarm,

When it comes to legal contortionist acts, gambling companies are the best, and few are as good as McGregor. Remember, his last attempt at the dog track was to turn it into an "Internet cafe" in which each minute your bought on the cafe computers, which few if any people ever used, bought you a chance in the "sweepstakes" game there. Besides, we say "bingo" and "sweepstakes" and "video poker," but let's be honest — these are slot machines. If you look at that fourth quote from Langford, even he calls them slot machines.

After all that twisting and turning, setting this up with a charity component should be easy peasy.

I was astounded when I saw that this had passed.

Clearly McGregor is probably the only person capable of exceeding the 500 machine limit and coming up with $1 million to fork over to the city every year. But how does he get past the "charity" angle?

And what's the defensible argument for 500+ machines? It seems that would only accelerate the negative impacts of gambling on a city that's already crumbling.
