Those damned tree huggers

By Jesse Chambers

The term is often used a pejorative, but not at www.treehugger.com, a nicely designed site with thousands (count ‘em, thousands) of green-themed articles intree_hugger_pic every imaginable area – “Green Basics,” “Culture & Celebrity,” “Fashion & Beauty,”etc. Our favorite piece so far is “Wild girl goes urban foraging in Portland,” posted byJaymi Heimbuch on May 28 under “Food & Health.” It’s about Becky Lerner, aka “Wild Girl,” who is now eating only what she can forage from among the edible plants (and bugs!) in what Heimbuch calls “the urban forest.” You can follow Lerner’s daily updates regarding her culinary adventures at www.culturechange.org.

Birmingham 101: What will history say about us?

‘The city of perpetual promise.’ Does that mean incessant failure? Or rather, that Birmingham never gives up hope?
