‘Dega gets cleaning money
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced late last month that it is granting Talladega, Ala. $400,000 from the American Recovery and Reinvestment 
Act of 2009 to clean up “brownfields.” The hope is that the $400,000 will be used to turn those brownfield sites (former industrial and commercial sites that may or may not have some light contamination from pollutants) into productive spaces for the community. Earlier in May, the EPA granted Jefferson County $200,000 to clean up the 27-acre Trinity Industries site in the Titusville neighborhood of Birmingham. The agency also granted Mobile, Ala. $400,000 to clean up brownfields in that area of the state. Soon enough, all that brown will be turned into green jobs.
