Land of Enchantment seeks green touristas

By Jesse Chambers

The Land of Enchantment wants a piece of the rapidly growing ecotourism business. The New Mexico state legislature, with the support of Governor (and failed Democratic presidential candidate) Bill Richardson, has committed $250,000 to new_mex_logofund an aggressive ecotourism project. “Ecotourism has the potential to make New Mexico an even more enthralling destination for travelers from around the world,” said Michael Cerletti of the state’s tourism department in a news release. “This initiative will bring new and sustainable business and economic opportunities to communities throughout our state.” The state is searching for the right person to head the program. According to their web site, at www.nmecotourism.org, the state wishes to become “the premier role model and destination for ecotourism and conservation initiatives” in the U.S.
