City Stages 2009 • Special Notes

This page will take you to write-ups about the 70-plus acts playing on five stages during the 2009 City Stages festival, scheduled for June 19-21, in downtown Birmingham. Below you will find some basic info about the festival. There’s more at www.citystages.org.

Lost and Found Items

Lost and Found items (except found children, see below) are held at the Information Booth, on the southern edge of Linn Park until the festival gates close on Sunday night. After the festival ends, call 205-251-1272 to inquire about lost and found items.

Lost and Found Children

The Found Children’s area is located at the Information Booth and is a good place for your family to plan to meet up if anyone becomes separated. After each night’s headline acts have gone on stage, found children are taken to the Birmingham Police Department’s Command Post.

Pass-Out Policy

Want to take the kids home once the Publix Children’s Festival is over and come back later to hear the headliners? Please be sure to visit the Information Booth to obtain a pass-out wristband prior to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. You can come back in after 6 p.m., but you can’t get a pass-out band after that time. There are no pass-outs on Friday, and only one wristband per person will be given.

Is Parking a Problem?

FREE SHUTTLE FROM LAKEVIEW: The City Stages shuttles provided by Rare Transportation will run Friday & Saturday. Catch a shuttle at THE RARE MARTINI in the Lakeview District near 7th Avenue South and 28th Street and arrive at the Festival’s vitaminwater sync gate on 4th Avenue North. Shuttles will run Friday & Saturday and will bring patrons both to and from the festival. If you aren’t ready to go home yet when you arrive back in Lakeview, join the fun at the Official City Stages After Party at THE RARE MARTINI.

City Stages Official After Party

Want to continue the City Stages experience after festival hours? To finish off the festivities on Friday and Saturday, the good people at THE RARE MARTINI are hosting the festival’s Official After Party, live from the Lakeview District at 2839 7th Avenue South. Join us for dancing, live music, DJ and great food, or just hang out with your friends at the sidebar. Bring this, your City Stages on-site guide, to get $2 off the price of admission. You must be 21 to enter. www.theraremartini.com

The aftermath of Larry Langford

The aftermath of Larry Langford

Last week’s verdict established Larry Langford’s guilt, but it will be a long time before we’re done settling all his unanswered questions.

Whoever emerges from the special election in December holding my city’s mantle of leadership inherits a sports scene that is in the direst of straits.
