Land Aid set for July 17 at Bottletree Cafe

By Brent Thompson

You can’t go wrong when you combine good music with a good cause. On Friday, July 17, Land Aid – a show benefitting the fwlt-logoFreshwater Land Trust – will be held at Bottletree Cafe. The show features the prominent local acts Vulture Whale, Jon Vogel and Joel Madison Blount.

Founded in 1997, the Freshwater Land Trust is a non-profit organization that acquires and cares for lands that enhance water quality and preserve open space. The conservation group is the first accredited land trust in Alabama and one of only 53 in the U.S. To date, the organization has preserved over 5,000 acres. And while the $10 Land Aid ticket benefits the FWLT, it will also place you in the presence of some talented local artists. The guitar-driven quartet Vulture Whale has already had a fruitful year with its second album release and a successful appearance at the famed South By Southwest Music Festival. In addition, singer-songwriters Vogel and Blount are building loyal followings on the local music scene.

Tickets to the 8 p.m. event can be purchased at www.thebottletree.com or by calling 533-6288. For more information on the Freshwater Land Trust, please visit www.freshwaterlandtrust.org.
