SMU 35 – UAB 33
Game Info:
Weekly Pick: I have to admit that I was a bit shocked at how effective a runner Joe Webb was against Rice last week. It’s not as if the Owls didn’t see it coming…the man ran for over 1,000 yards from the quarterback position last season! Chances are SMU will try and slow down the elusive Webb, but can anyone do that? Better yet, can a team that finished 2008 with a 1-11 record do that? Probably not. Expect what we saw last week to replay once again at Legion Field. UAB 48, SMU 20

Weekly Pick: How fortunate for Gene Chizik that his first conference game as Auburn’s head coach comes against the SEC’s worst team. Mississippi State beat Jackson State in their season opener, but it wasn’t pretty – 14 first-half points, a dozen penalties and a handful of turnovers against a 1-AA team…yikes! Star runningback Anthony Dixon will be off suspension for the Bulldogs, so that’s good news for State, but how much difference will it make against an Auburn team that far exceeded expectations in last week’s win against Louisiana Tech? That Malzahn spread looks like a winner so far… Auburn 28, Mississippi State 14
#4 Alabama 40 – Fla. International 14
Game Info:
Weekly Pick: The only thing difficult about picking this game is getting the score right. The formula here for the Tide is simple: Pound the ball, control the clock and escape without any major injuries. With Alabama’s size advantage in the…well, everywhere…there should be little that the Panthers can do to stop them. If things go according to plan, Tide fans won’t be seeing too much Greg McElroy, Mark Ingram or Julio Jones in this game. And that will be a good thing. Alabama 48, FIU 9
