Here’s something for Bettye Fine Collins’ enemies to chew on. The News’ Barnett Wright got Collins and Larry Ward on-the-record talking about their friendship. So why does that matter? Ward is managing director for Morgan Keegan, the investment arm of Regions Bank, the same bank Jefferson County is hitting up for a $25 million bridge loan. Collins says she never mixes friendships with politics. (And Larry Langford will be telling a jury something similar next month.)
