A really Crude film Sunday at Sidewalk
Last week at the Harmony Gold Theater in Hollywood, environmental group Amazon Watch hosted a benefit screening of CRUDE, a new documentary by director Joe Berlinger about a $27 billion lawsuit filed against U.S. oil 
firm Chevron on behalf of 30,000 indigenous people in the Amazon jungle of Ecuador. The plaintiffs claim that Texaco, which merged with Chevron in 2001, spent three decades systematically contaminating their air, land and water with toxic chemicals.
According to an Amazon Watch news release, the screening was attended by about 350 people, including actors Sean Penn and Rosanna Arquette and former Jane’s Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro. The film is scheduled to play in about 40 cities, including Birmingham — the film will be shown Sunday at 1:15 p.m. as part of the Sidewalk Moving Picture Festival.
