Hale explains Sheriff Dept. cuts

By Kyle Whitmire

Jefferson County Circuit Judge Scott Vowell has approved a plan by Sheriff Mike Hale to consolidate the Bessemer jail population into the Birmingham jail. Commission President Bettye Fine Collins disputes the idea that the $10 million reduction in Hale’s budget is a “cut.”

nojokin is obviousy a do nothing employee that should have been fired years ago.

"Public safety" cries dont mean an open checkbook, The vast majority of calls are REACTIVE, not proactive. When they came to fill out a report on my neighbors missing grill, it wasnt a priority, It was a $35 grill new and maybe worth $10 now. So could it have waited or was "public safety" so much at risk that they couldnt risk prioritizing the calls ?

How many freaking helicopters over centerpoint do we need to know its a cestpool ?

Mike Hale is a CLUELESS JOKE and I saw him last week walking around totally ambivalent to his surroundings or his employees.

But, the weeks prior when he, several of his top guys and Trussvilles brass had all gathered at Wild Wings with a half million worth of taxpayer vehicles to get drunk. Something tells me they didnt get stopped on the way home.

    Maybe its just me.

    I doubt it.

Well, this is the first time Ive seen or read Hale without his incessant whining.

The sheriffs department is FULL OF FAT just like the rest of Jeffco.

The "cut" is only significant if Hale sees last years budget as his entitlement or birthright. And, i guess for many years he got that and more.

I just wish someone would hire me to cut fat in Jeffco.

I would happily work for 5% of the fat I can cut.

bob255 apparently you don't live in the county!! The "fat" as you call it is what PROTECTS the citizens of Jefferson County from the criminals on the street. Sheriff Hale hasn't been whining, but instead STANDING UP for his employees in the past, and I can't believe he's not doing it now. I pray that he eventually does and that he fights for what's right for the Deputies and the CITIZENS of Jefferson County like he always has!!

It's not a cut...it's a reduction from last year. Don't you see the difference. I could have something more substantive to say...but I don't so I'm going to wast your time splitting hairs. Now...what else can we do to promote the well being of our constituents? We certainly can't put more of them back to work.
