		<description>It&#039;s a mute point now, but Smitherman would have become interim mayor, anyway, supposing the trial were finished before the fourth Tuesday in November. The question that is still up in the air is what will happen if (a) Langford is convicted, (b) Smitherman takes over and then (c) she is not reelected by her peers to be council president again. Does the new council president take over as interim mayor? What further complicates this is that the Mayor Council Act says that an interim mayor may not sit or vote with the council, which means that Smitherman probably would not be able to vote for herself for council president. There&#039;s going to be a lot of war games going on at City Hall.</description>
