It’s a brown recluse, dumbass
Are you a city dweller who feels isolated from nature? Do you ever find yourself, in the words of clinical psychologist Cole Porter, “fighting vainly that old ennui”? No? Well, good. Pop another beer and watch Entourage. But if you do, there’s help ‘a comin’ from the Alabama Wildlife Center (AWC) at Oak Mountain State Park and the Birmingham Audubon Society.
The AWC hosts an ongoing series of nature programs called “Audubon Teaches Nature.” The next installment, scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 18, at 1:30 p.m., is “An Introduction to the Spiders of Alabama.”
Visitors will meet at the AWC for cider and cookies (yummy!) and then enjoy a stroll around the park looking for creepy-crawlies. You are urged to bring binoculars and field guides. The program is free after regular park admission.
