Tour Red Mountain Park this Sunday
Located on 1,108 acres formerly owned by U.S. Steel (and graciously sold to the Red Mountain Park Commission for a bargain-basement price), Red Mountain Park will be one of Birmingham’s great treasures when it opens. But right now it’s still in development and closed to the public except for tours. Luckily for you, you can tour Red Mountain Park on Sunday, Oct. 18, and every third Sunday until April.

Bring hiking boots and water to Frankfurt Drive, which is a right turn 1.4 miles past the West Oxmoor Road intersection on Lakeshore Drive as you’re headed towards Bessemer. Park in the cul-de-sac there for the 2 p.m. tour (try to arrive 15 minutes early to sign waivers and meet your guides). You can opt for a shorter tour, which will take about 90 minutes, or for the longer three-hour tour.
