I believe I addressed the issue of what to do with the property in the column: "Build a business incubater on that land, or expand the BJCC’s exhibition space, or build another hotel."

Also, bear in mind that no final blueprints have been drawn - to my knowledge - on the design of the stadium. That's what the money we're sending to Populous is for. And even if the roof turns out to be flat, it's still technically a domed stadium. There are several domes that have (more or less) flat roofs. Ford Field in Detroit is an example.

And of course the project is a domed stadium project! As I recall, Larry Langford's slogan was "Do the dome NOW!", not "Do the multi-purpose arena NOW!"

It's all moot though, since we're not getting the damn thing now anyway!

Uh, there needs to be something done on the land adjacent to the BJCC, and the proposal isn't a “dome stadium” persay rather a multi-purpose arena that could seat 57,000 people. I wish you guys in the media would stop calling it a “dome” when I've seen the blueprints and the drafts for it and it has a flat roof. The expansion should go on as planned with major renovations occuring to the existing BJCC Arena.

Do it. Now. Heck, we'd be more likely to get an MLS team in Birmingham with a 30,000 seat open air football stadium than the 60,000 seat Larrydome. Throw in some concerts and we have an arena Birmingham can use all year round.
