As part of their HopeLine program, Verizon will either recycle the phone or refurbish and sell it. With the funds raised from these sales, the company donates wireless phones and airtime to victims of domestic violence.
Verizon also provides funding and other assistance to domestic violence shelters and prevention programs across the country. Satina Richardson of Birmingham’s Big Communications tells me that The Women's Fund of Greater Birmingham is one of the groups that have benefited.
Verizon recycles old cell phone batteries, as well.
