Little River Canyon not so little

LITTLE RIVER CANYON NOT SO LITTLE: According to a report in Monday’s Birmingham News, a 2,186-acre plot next to the Little River Canyon National Preserve in Cherokee County has been purchased for preservation by the Nature Conservancy of Alabama. The land, which will provide a development buffer for Little River Canyon, was purchased for $3.6 million. The Nature Conservancy plans to sell about 1,500 acres of the tract to Forever Wild, the state of Alabama's land conservation program, which has approved an appraisal of the property. Other tracts may be transferred to the National Park System.
