Speaking of eating for community gardens

If you can’t make it to Swine & Wine on Sunday, try and make it to Café Dupont on Saturday, March 20, from 6-9 p.m.,for a West End Community Gardens Fundraiser Banquet.

This event will feature a delightful bunch of local-inspired vittles prepared by Café Dupont executive chef Chris Dupont. Whole Foods is donating seasonal ingredients that Dupont will prepare. If you don’t know anything about the West End Community Gardens (sometimes referred to as WE Community Gardens), here’s a couple of things: it’s a project of Urban Ministry Inc.–a non-profit that’s been serving the Birmingham area since 1976–and Community Church Without Walls–a mission of the United Methodist Church that meets in the homes of its members–to build a community garden in West End.

The garden hosts family plots for 16 families in which they grow fresh produce, educational nutrition programs for the community, and a gardening and nutrition community service program for juvenile offenders. Tickets are $125 a person or $225 for a couple. To purchase tickets, visit www.communitychurchwithoutwalls.org and click on “Give,” and then send an e-mail to rglyons@gmail.com and note in your e-mail that you’re reserving a spot at the banquet. Eat well!
