Tuscaloosa’s Greenway Path of Rememberance and Revitalization. 

The City Council voted earlier this week to apply for the grant to install seven pedestrian bridges in various spots throughout the 5.9mile path hewn by the April 27 tornado. The total cost of the project is estimated at $17.5 million, but the grant calls for a 20 percent match. Tuscaloosa residents would be on the hook for $3.5 million.

Ruffner Mountain Calendar Fall Wildflower Hike, October 16, 1 PM – 4 PM. While Fall seems to be the season of yellows and purple wildflowers, there are plenty of white, blue, and pink flowers as well, blooming at Ruffner’s limestone Rock quarry.

On the quarry rim are purple asters, wild petunia, yellow goldenrod and on the quarry floor are pink slender gerardia, white boneset, and blue salvia. Join board member and native plant enthusiast Michelle Reynolds for a morning hike to the quarry to see the spectacular array of colors.

Splinter Hill Bog Preserve (photo gallery). In northern Baldwin County, the preserve contains more than a dozen species of carnivorous plants including five species of pitcher plants within the longleaf pine savanna/seepage bog habitat.
