Comedian Dale Jones is performing all weekend long at the Comedy Club Stardome. Jones is known for his physical comedy and very intense energy when on stage. He has also appeared on Last Comic Standing on Fox and in a few movies as well. If you are in the mood tonight to get in some laughs to ring in the New Year then this is the show for you. Tickets range from $10 to $16 depending on the night you would like to see him perform. Visit www.stardome.com for more information.

Tonight is going to be an easy night for me with just going out to dinner because I am New Orleans bound on Saturday. With that being said, I am going to go try out The Ridge restaurant in Rocky Ridge Plaza tonight. The Ridge is owned and operated by David Horn whom also owns Mudtown in Cahaba Heights. With this knowledge at hand I am eager to try out some of his new menu at The Ridge. Since it is the sister restaurant of Mudtown it will be casual dining with great burgers and sandwiches. Ridge has been open since August but I am just now getting over there to try it out, I know shame on me.

For those of you who are not going to be making the trip to the Big Easy this weekend you still have a chance to see live college football for less than a gazillion dollars a ticket! The Pitt Panthers and SMU Mustangs will be playing at noon today in the 6th annual BBVA Compass Bowl here in B’ham at Legion Field. A lot of good charities benefit from this bowl game and the best part is that most of them are local children’s charities. So you do not have to be a Pitt or SMU fan but if you want to see some good football and help stimulate our local economy as well then make sure you get out to see the game. Tickets range from $30-$50 which is much more economical than the $1500 tag hanging on Championship tickets.

Feeling adventurous? Then head on down to Oak Mountain for a Southeastern Outings Day hike. An enjoyable and easy 4-5 mile walk in the woods, this outing is an excellent opportunity to take in all that nature has to offer.
Also this is an event you can bring the whole family on as long as everyone is older the age of eight. Southeastern Outings are very popular so make sure and give them a call before rolling out there to make sure you have all the details. Please call 205-967-2912 for more information.

It is here. It is finally upon us. The day everyone in Alabama and Louisiana has been waiting for has arrived. If you have not made arrangements to be at the game or partying in the French Quarter then pick your favorite sports bar and belly up because this one is going to be everything it has been billed as. I myself will be in attendance at the Mercedes Benz Superdome for this epic event. I am just glad as most of you are that OK State did not make it to the game because as we all know the two best teams are playing and they just happen to be from the same conference and even the same division. Now the rest of the nation can watch how we play football down here in the South Eastern Conference.

Civil War Series - Imagining War I really enjoy, as I hope most of you do, learning about history and getting different perspectives about the events that helped to form our nation today. Today Dr. John Mayfield of the History Department at Samford will be holding a discussion of the book March by Geraldine Brooks. This book is part of the “Let’s Talk About It: Making Sense of the American Civil War” series which discusses the different aspects of the civil war. The meeting will be held in the Theatre Level Meeting Rooms at the Hoover Public Library. Starts at 7PM.

Upon searching for something to do on this Wednesday I found that there is not much going on before this weekend and I thought to myself, today would be a good day to start my new year’s resolution! Now my new year’s resolution is quite cliché I am afraid, heading back to the gym, but whatever your resolution may be today is the day to start it. Why today? First of all, who starts their resolution on New Year’s Day…that’s right, no one. Secondly, with such a big game earlier this week I bet most resolutions were put on hold anyways. This brings us to today, a perfect day to start your resolutions! Good luck in this New Year.

Okay, for this Thursday I have chosen a show at the Alys Stephens Center. Bela Fleck will be performing with his banjo which he has been able to master in many different genres of music. Fleck has played everywhere from Bonnaroo to Carnegie Hall. This should turn out to be a very good show with a lot of interesting and entertaining performances and music. Tickets start at just $32 and go up to $52. The show starts at 8pm.
