75 state attorneys general urge DOJ to review Siegelman case

By Weekly Staff
A group of 75 state attorneys general have written a letter to United States Attorney General Eric Holder, urging him to take a look at the conviction of former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman.

Siegelman's defense attorneys argue that prosecutorial misconduct played a role in the former governor's bribery and corruption conviction. Some say that the prosecution was politically motivated. (Source: The New York Times)

The letter comes less than a month after Holder ordered that the corruption case against former Alaska Senator Ted Stevens be dropped for prosecutorial misconduct. After Stevens' case was dropped, Siegelman compared the two cases, telling the blog Talking Points Memo that "There seems to be substantial evidence of prosecutorial and other misconduct in my case, that would dwarf the allegations in the Stevens case."
