Council considers $15k for Witherspoon funeral

In a special-called meeting today, the Birmingham City Council is scheduled to consider spending as much as $15,000 to cater the funeral of Councilor Miriam Witherspoon who died Tuesday.

In a special-called meeting today, the Birmingham City Council is scheduled to consider spending as much as $15,000 to cater the funeral of Councilor Miriam Witherspoon who died Tuesday.

The addendum item reads:
A Resolution determining that Homegoing Celebration honoring the life and humanitarian work of Council President Pro Tempore Miriam D. Witherspoon, to be held Friday, April 24, 2009 serves a public purpose that promotes goodwill, requesting that City funds in the amount of $15,000.00 be used to pay for this event, and authorizing an appointment letter for Creative Catering by Ambrosia. (Submitted and Recommended by Council President Smitherman)

The meeting was scheduled for 9:30, but as of 10 a.m. no councilors were in council chambers for the meeting.
