Looking for a fun outdoor adventure that will allow you to do something good for Mother Earth? The non-profit American Hiking Society’s Volunteer Vacations make be what you’re looking for. The 2009 schedule offers more than 80 projects in 28 states. Volunteers can battle invasive plants in Alaska’s Chugach National Forest or help build a trail across California’s Catalina Island. Trips range from easy to strenuous and require no experience. According to the complete schedule on their web site, there are no trips planned for Alabama, but there are two in Tennessee: May 31-June 6 in the Cumberland Trail and June 7-13 at the Big South Fork National River. Call (301) 565-6704 or check out www.americanhiking.org.
