The annual Bankhead Lake cleanup will take place Sat., May 30, from 8 a.m.-noon, at the Buddy Vines Camp in Bessemer. Volunteers will remove trash and debris from the lake, then enjoy free hot dogs The cleanup is coordinated by the Black Warrior Clean Water Partnership, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Alabama Power employees. The event is part of Renew Our Rivers, a cleanup campaign sponsored by Alabama Power and billed as the largest of its kind in the Southeast. According to an Alabama Power release, there are 23 additional cleanups planned through October, including events on the Cahaba and Black Warrior Rivers.
