Jessica Lea Mayfield's music has been called "stark," "moody," "dark" and "confessional." And while these descriptions might seem derogatory, Mayfield turns them to her advantage. The singer/songwriter and Ohio native pens songs that ring far beyond her 19 years of age and you'll get to hear them when she performs at Workplay on Saturday, July 25. Currently, Mayfield is headlining a summer tour in support of her 2008 release With Blasphemy So Heartfelt. Mayfield's current tour comes on the heels of a successful run supporting Ray Lamontagne and an appearance at the Bonnaroo Music Festival in Manchester, Tenn.
Produced by Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys, With Blasphemy So Heartfelt has seen two of its 12 tracks included in the television series CSI: NY and Gossip Girl. In addition, Mayfield recorded a cover version of Buddy Holly's "Words Of Love" for the Strabucks Sweetheart compilation.
Shelly Colvin opens the 9 p.m. show. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at www.workplay.com or by calling 380-4082.
