Film on domestic partner benefits at UAB to open SHOUT film festival

Preceding the 8 p.m. screening of Sissyboy, the official opening night film of the 2009 SHOUT gay+lesbian film festival, there will be a special presentation of a short film titled One Closed Door After Another. The film details the current lack of availability of domestic partner benefits at UAB and the ongoing efforts by a group of UAB employees to have the school’s policies changed. The SHOUT film festival will be held at WorkPlay on Friday and Saturday, May 29-30. Tickets and a complete schedule are online at www.bhamshout.com.

Birmingham Mayor Larry Langford testified under oath that he intended to move to the City of Birmingham. Jefferson County Circuit Judge Allwin Horn ruled that Langford’s intent was enough to qualify him for Birmingham public office. But has Langford moved, even a year and a half later? Birmingham Weekly made five trips in five weeks to Fairfield to see if Langford was still living there. Can you guess already what we found?
