Birmingham elections set for August 25

Birmingham elections set for August 25

The DOJ has approved the City of Birmingham’s request to move the City Council and Board of Education elections to Aug. 25. The elections were originally set for Oct. 13. The city requested the change so Birmingham could comply with the Help America Vote Act, which requires six weeks between elections and runoffs (previous Birmingham elections had allowed only three weeks) to allow for the arrival and counting of overseas and absentee ballots.
